Artist’s Statement

The process of creating is just as important as the finished product.  My drawings speak to this, and aim to display technique as well as imply a work in progress.  I often work in black and white charcoal, because I strive to demonstrate the composition, without distracting the intensity or complexity of the subject. In painting, I study values and forms as they relate to the subject, and I create implications instead of a static representation of any particular object.  In my work, I try to capture the focus and spirit of the object and highlight the power of each medium I work in.
